They closed down the last townie bar in town last night

You know the one that gave the fine folks fits

 Closed it up right, though,  with a big ol' fight so...

The owner called the cops and then he called it quits 

I was thinkin' on the way home how long that bar had been around

John Cale played there and so did Mo Tucker

And Hell, that's one half The Velvet Underground!

But it was there for Bill & Jack & Cookie & Dot & Frenchie & Bongo...

Don't you hate to see a good dive go? 

It was over on the east end of Main... that special side of town

And I remember nights that big cinder block would lift right off of the ground 

Word of the closing spread like a wildfire

From twixt to twitter to facebook to text,  pony express to the rusty telephone wire 

I was thinkin" on the way home

How long that bar had been around
